Remembering

Writer's picture: Zoe CunninghamZoe Cunningham

Today I sit with a smile on my face

It creeps in and creeps out

But it sets my day's pace.

The small and sweet things I like to ponder

The memories that drift

From the wind that blew yonder,

They bring me back to this moment in time

Where I sip it all in

Like a barrel-aged wine.

What's round the corner, nobody knows

Some good and some ugly

But I'll take what it throws.

I'll drink in the calm while it fills up my cup

And try not to complain

When I've sipped it all up.

I'll try to remember that too shall pass

Then I'll slap on a smile

And make all my joys last.

I recognise the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Traditional Owners and first storytellers of this beautiful place I call home. I pay my respects to their elders past and present and acknowledge the deep, continuing culture and the irreplaceable contribution all First Nations people make to the life of this country.
